Many Feminine Leadership and Feminine Embodiment programmes are led by pre menopausal women. As a result, some of the psychological and physiological changes experienced by women over fifty are not addressed as deeply as they can be by someone who has experience of them!
Recently, in a women’s group, one woman voiced what others may have been thinking. ‘How do I act from Feminine energy when I no longer feel like a woman?’
I was shocked to hear such a blunt statement. The statement says a lot about cultural narratives in a youth obsessed culture. Research suggests many women feel less visible once over 50 and their confidence decreases.
On the other hand there are wisdom teachings suggesting the menopause is a passage to power.
Empowering women by offering a Feminine reframe on power is important for female leaders. It’s key to women’s health, wealth and happiness. I also believe its women who awaken and educate men to ways in which the feminine is distorted and invalidated in patriarchal systems.
For decades equal opportunities has been about equality within the existing system, which is patriarchal. We see the results. Many, if not most, ambitious women have adopted proven methods of success for men. Deep down, a sense of other possibilities has given rise to a Feminine Leadership movement.
We tend to think of power as having status or position in society. In this mindset, power is something to be obtained or perhaps born into.
In esoteric traditions, the Feminine births the Universe, which is quite logical if you think about it! Therefore, creativity, energy and power are Feminine. The Feminine is the moving, changing and transforming aspect of consciousness. Although the sexual power of a younger woman has different qualities from the sexual power of an older woman, it does not make an older woman ‘less than’ a younger one. Many powers increase as a woman gets older. There is huge value in the woman who has alchemised past experiences into wisdom and spiritual depth. There is a place for her wisdom and her beauty.
Menopause is a major transition. Culturally, we lack initiatory processes that confirm this transition to a new phase of life. But, we do have access to an amazing amount of information and support thanks to all those who are pioneering the Feminine Leadership path. Young women want to see role models in women over fifty. As I see it, those of us who are over fifty and who want a different world for our daughter and grand daughters can lead by example.
