Currently, many women are out of touch with the authentic Feminine. Is being ‘well adjusted’ to patriarchy the problem?
Patriarchy values so-called masculine traits encouraging women to operate out of alignment with their basic energetic nature.
My own story was of growing up with many ideals and intentions to live a ‘perfect’ life. High achievement was a theme in my family. Of course, life didn’t operate according to my naïve plan! In my case, ‘failures’ led to a day when I stopped trying to find a solution to an annoying, though non life threatening, health issue. To my surprise, ‘giving up’ led to a spiritual awakening!
My greatest teachings have come from the laboratory of my own life. I burned out from not honouring my sensitive nature – more than once. I discounted my intuitions and took many detours as a result. I married, divorced and learned through a number of relationships. I’ve been a single mother of a sensitive, ADD/dyslexic female child. I engaged with, and then walked away, from a variety of patriarchal abuses.
Looking back, I see how my life story followed the mythical journey of Persephone. I fell into a type of underworld, which became an exploration into a different way of living my life.
The encounter with the Feminine is a recognised stage of a spiritual journey according to Joseph Campbell, an influential 20thcentury mythologist. He referred to this stage as “The Meeting with the Goddess” in his map of the Hero’s Journey. Hero refers to the ego of both sexes.
This meeting is really a type of awakening. Because it causes a person to question the mainstream, patriarchal framework for life, it can feel like a trip into the underworld.
By using the phrase Authentic Feminine, I am differentiating what I am speaking of from the feminist movement, which I see as being a movement for equality within patriarchy (which a few decades of experience would suggest is not possible.)
The Authentic Feminine is the transformational, creative aspect of consciousness, which in theory, as women, we might have greater potential for. (Albeit this is not denied to men as they have an inner feminine aspect.)
As a woman, how are you called to ignite your inner flame of creative potential?
Is Feminine Leadership about more than having more women in leadership in the workplace?
What stereotypes are you still living out in your relationships?
Should Feminine Leadership be a stand for a new and non patriarchal paradigm in which the differing contributions of men and women are valued equally?
