Early in my career (late 80’s and early 90’s) I worked in Executive Selection and then Career Consulting with KPMG in London.
I was passionate about my career and about being successful as a woman in business. But, close to burnout, and wanting to have a baby, I left my corporate job, at age 35, for self employment and a personal journey.
The longed for baby arrived when I was 38. I was ready for the initiation and became a full time mother for two years.
I loved being a mother. But, my challenging relationship, which had a volatile history, became even more difficult. Values differences, which had been possible to overlook when we were both working full time, and travelling a lot, now became irreconcilable.
Sadly, when my daughter was 4, my second marriage broke down and I moved from London to Surrey to begin a new life as a single mother.
As I licked my emotional and financial wounds, I resolved to live more simply, in harmony with nature, honouring my body, my desires and my intuition. I had a lot of passion for truth, a lot of belief in new possibilities and a burning desire to create new foundations for myself and my daughter, based on Feminine values.
Life continued to be challenging. However, I was on a journey that felt purposeful.
It’s possible you have a similar story. I’m sure the circumstances were different. But, something happened to ‘wake you up’ and you question the ways you were living and working.
Maybe you burned out? Maybe it was the ending of a relationship, an illness, becoming a mother or coming to terms with not being one?
Or maybe, like me (read part 1), there were repeated experiences, over a decade, that opened your eyes to the fact – equal opportunity for men and women within patriarchal culture is not the same thing as valuing the masculine and feminine principles equally!
There are many ways the Feminine may call you.
You may have become angry as veils of illusion drop and you see patriarchy for what it is, a human construct which is not in alignment with the laws of nature.
Anger is the appropriate response for a being who is waking up. What is referred to as spiritual awakening is not all love and light. It’s a journey of grieving, of unfreezing, of reclaiming your birth right to reclaim who you were designed to be and what you were designed to give.
In my case, I explored the psychotherapies and then energy traditions such as yoga, Taoist philosophy, qigong, tantra, healing modalities and shamanism.
Another decade passed before I found a spiritual home in the Feminine Indian tradition of Sri Vidya. This deeply Feminine tradition values the contribution of women, ‘householder’ choices and the opportunity for spiritual growth inherent in everyday challenges.
To me, it’s important to blend the fruits of spiritual practice with ‘in the world’ qualifications and experience. Professionally, I have been in the coaching and personal development field since the late 1980’s, initially as a career and leadership coach. In recent years I updated with modern coaching certifications. I’m committed to an ongoing journey of exploration both business and personal.
Everything that I offer to my clients has been tried and tested in the laboratory of my own life!
Deeply grounded in Universal spiritual principles, my client work is non tradition specific and respectful of all spiritual pathways.
